Today started out like a normal Sunday. Went to church (where I got Brazilian cookies from Kristi! Passatempo!), came home and packed up my stuff to head back to Fresno.
Now, my dad had my truck this past week so he could haul some lumber around because he was fixing my neighbor's gate. I got my truck back on Saturday, and noticed that whenever I would accelerate from a slow speed, my truck would wobble a little. I didn't know what it was and was hoping it was just a quirk I hadn't noticed before because I hadn't driven it in a week.
However, while I was driving north on the 99, I was coming up to the 198 interchange when all of a sudden my truck starts shaking and wobbling really bad. I slowed down immediately, got in the right lane, and tried to determine what exit I could get off on that could take me to the nearest auto center. "Maybe there's one in Goshen," I thought. But I didn't have to go far until the decision was made for me.
All of a sudden, I hear this loud noise: Pop! Bang! Rip! Scratch! I pulled over to the shoulder and looking behind me, see pieces of tire tumbling on the side of the road. I get out of my truck and proceed to look at all my tires. None were flat, but my rear passenger-side tire had most of the tread ripped right off of it O_O.
I call my parents' house; no one's there. So, I call the number on my insurance card. I got emergency roadside assistance! Woot! They call a towing place to have a guy come out and replace my tire with my spare. The dude had a hard time getting the lug nuts off XD. "A gorilla put these on!" Haha. He ends up switching them out, but now I got to find a tire place that's open on Sunday afternoon. The spare won't get me very far and I can't go I-99 speeds on it all the way to Fresno. I'm just south of the exit for Goshen, but the towing-guy tells me that the places he knows of there are closed. My best bet is Visalia.
Going a moderate speed, I take the back roads all the way to Mooney Blvd. I know of a few tire places on that street and make my way down scoping them out. GoodGuys is, of course, closed. Discount Tire Center is closing in 15 minutes and doesn't want to help me :P. PepBoys is open and closes at 6 :D. So, I end up at PepBoys and get both of my back tires replaced. I know the other rear tire was getting pretty old, so I thought, "What the hey?"
While they're working on my truck, I go next door to Burger King and get a soda. For the next hour and a half I read my book I had with me: "Till We Have Faces." Oh yeah, and I also end up getting chicken fries. Yummmm. Once they're all done with my truck, I head back out to the 99 with two new tires and an fixed alignment :D.
Originally, I started out from Porterville at 1:30pm. After all that, I get home to Fresno at 7:30pm. X_X
But, I guess it all worked out. Got home safely, and my tires replaced. I'm rather glad it was just my tread that blew off and not my whole tire O_O. Thank you God, that would have been bad. I'm also glad it didn't happen with my dad hauling all that stuff, haha. I think I got a farmer's tan now from sitting and waiting for the tow-truck to arrive. Oh well XD.
